Alberta RCMP App – The AB RCMP mobile app is now available as a free download through the Apple App and Google Play Stores. The app does not track or monitor users in any way. It provides easy access to Online Crime Reporting, Crime Mapping, Detachment information, Project Lock Up, Crime Stoppers, as well as RCMP news and social media accounts.
Surveillance Camera Registry – If you have a surveillance system at your home or business, you can register it with the Drayton Valley RCMP to help officers identify locations that may have valuable evidence to aid in investigations. May 4
8:40 p.m. – Brazeau County -8:40 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported people parked on Hwy 22 by the bridge needing to evacuate as the fire had jumped the river. Member advised the complainant that the fire hadn’t (yet) jumped the river. Members attended the area to ensure the onlookers weren’t creating an undue safety issue.
9:06 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 81 – Complaints received of someone burning in a barrel during the fire ban. Member attended, fire had already attended and extinguished the fire and the person responsible had been scolded by passers by.
11:29 p.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge area – Alarm at a business, one hit to a door. Members unable to attend for several hours as everyone was busy ensuring a timely evacuation. Member attended later, appeared to have been a false alarm.
May 5
12:02 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 55 Ave – Complainant reported an elderly female in possible distress. Member attended and found a confused female not answering questions. The female was taken to the hospital. About an hour later she was reported missing by her husband; the female has dementia and had wandered off while he was loading the car to evacuate. The couple was reunited.
12:38 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Hwy 22 by Co-op – Members attended a collision involving four vehicles, including a water tanker rolled off the road. Damage was minor and the tanker was removed. Under investigation.
5:24 p.m. – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported a grass fire, member attended to assist fire department in ensuring anyone in the area was safe. Member attended, resident’s fighting a grass fire. One person told to evacuate for safety but luckily two dedicated Lodgepole firefighters attended and along with assistance from Forestry the fire was kept from spreading.
9:58 p.m. – Lodgepole – Complainant reported two ATV’s riding around while intoxicated, believed they came from a local business yard. Members didn’t attend the area due to ongoing issues in town.
11:01 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Due to a report of someone in a truck stealing a jerry can from a residence, and there being great video, members located a matching truck and conducted a traffic stop. The occupants were arrested and members ended up locating items stolen from an earlier break and enter. Due to logistical issues the occupants were escorted well out of town and the driver was released to appear in court at a later date. Matter under investigation, further charges possible.
May 6
12:02 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Member on patrol located a business gate open in a laneway, appeared to have been a forced open. It was later determined that a side by side had been stolen. Under investigation.
12:18 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Member on patrol located a smashed business door. Investigation determined that one male broke in initially, and then later three more entered. Charges pending against three who were identified by video surveillance, final person not yet identified.
12:41 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Member on patrol located a business with a broken window. Investigation determined that an unknown suspect threw a rock breaking the window, but it didn’t appear any entry was gained.
1:49 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 by golf course – Complainant reported a suspicious male on a bike, around the time a fire had broken out by Pihtokwe Campground. Fire attended and extinguished the flames. Under investigation.
6:53 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Member responded to an alarm and fire alarm in an apartment building. A female tenant had lit a fire in her living room. Member entered and extinguished the small fire. The female tenant was assessed and subsequently transported to Edmonton to the evacuation center.
May 7
9:13 a.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 492 – Complainant reported locating items belonging to a male who is wanted. The suspect male wasn’t on scene at the time. Dealt with as an information file, members were already aware and looking for the male.
12:07 p.m. – Brazeau County – Northside Meadows – Members attended a residence to assist with a fire in a barrel. Fire was extinguished and Brazeau County was advised on who to bill for fire services or issue a ticket to.
4:30 p.m. – Tomahawk area – Members on patrol located a stolen truck leaving a residence. Members didn’t attempt a stop but followed the truck until the truck took off at a high rate of speed. Extensive patrols didn’t relocate the stolen truck. Under investigation.
8:11 p.m. – Tomahawk – Complainant reported a male walking around the hamlet with a machete and bear spray. Member in the area encountered the male who was hysterical and claimed someone tried to run him over. Investigation determined the original complainant had stopped his vehicle to confront the suspect about walking around with weapons and had not tried to run him down. A machete, baton and bear spray were seized from the suspect who was extremely distraught about not being able to protect himself. He was advised that the other option involved him being charged with a weapons offence.
8:51 p.m. – Tomahawk – Members attended a residence on an unrelated matter and located a dirt bike. Occupants unable to prove ownership and the persons who allegedly brought the dirt bike to the location are well known to police. As a result, the dirt bike was seized and secured at the detachment as it is likely stolen.
May 9
9:26 p.m. – Rocky Rapids area – Complainant reported his car missing from the parking lot of Points West on Power Ctr Blvd after he was evacuated. Details unclear but the plate provided is not attached to any vehicle, unclear if a theft occurred, under investigation. Police unable to reach the complainant.
9:43 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Complainant reported a B&E to a neighbour’s residence, male and female could be seen on camera. Multiple members arrived quickly and located a female who claimed the residents were okay with her presence. Members spoke to the homeowner who confirmed the female “had” been allowed to use the garage but that they didn’t want her there when they were gone. Members told the female who left willingly.
May 10
2:11 p.m. – Brazeau County – Fairway Meadows – Complainant reported a fire near his residence. Members attended and extinguished a contained fire. Penalty for ignoring the fire ban forthcoming. One person was arrested at the scene as he was breaching release conditions, transported to Thorsby RCMP detachment and held for a telephone bail hearing. Male remanded into custody.
May 11
8:44 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Members assisting from out of town and utilizing a covert vehicle located a male with outstanding warrants. The male provided a false name, though his ruse was not successful. 36-year-old Jordan Devall of Drayton Valley was arrested on outstanding warrants as well as a new charge of Obstructing a Peace Officer. Devall was transported to the Thorsby RCMP detachment where he was held for a bail hearing. Devall was released on $10 bail (yes, $10) by a Justice of the Peace to appear at a later date.
May 12
10:05 a.m. – Parkland County – Complainant reported a family member breaching an Emergency Protection Order by riding near his fence on an ATV. Member spoke to the complainant and advised him the suspect was on his own property and no contact was made, no charges will be considered.
1:59 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 St – Complainant reported a silver SUV seen driving slowly around the area several times. Member spoke to the complainant and advised him it was likely a police vehicle as an out of town member was in the area patrolling in a matching vehicle.
6:31 p.m. – Tomahawk – Members located and arrested a male wanted for a prior offence. Members then received information that a rifle was in the tent the male had been sleeping in. Insecure rifle located and seized, under investigation.
8:26 p.m. – Parkland County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported her brother was at her father’s residence in breach of an Emergency Protection Order. Members attended, brother wasn’t at the father’s residence, though he was digging up a culvert to prevent access from estranged family members. As the culvert was on the brother’s property he was able to do as he wished though he was told to do it when sober.
May 14
12:54 p.m. – Brazeau County – 56 Ave – Complainant reported that sometime over the past four days someone tried to steal a truck from a business yard. Ignition damaged even though there were keys left in the console. Under investigation.
3:06 p.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge – Members attended a residence over concerns about dogs inside. Property insecure, two small dogs at the location, which members described as “smelling like death.” Member searched but didn’t locate any deceased persons. Alberta Health and animal control advised.
3:10 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 75 – Firefighters working on hot spots located a grenade. A member in the area with extensive Explosives Disposal Unit experience was consulted and attended, determining that the grenade was inert. Firefighters able to return to work.
May 15
12:00 p.m. – Tomahawk -Complainant reported two suspicious males had bought knives at the gas station. Members identified the two males and determined they had also bought a small baton. Both were spoken to at their residence and were warned not to leave their property with weapons. One claimed to need protection and appeared to be suffering some mental health issues. A referral was made for appropriate follow-up.
May 16
1:15 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 621 – Member stopped a vehicle displaying a plate reported stolen out of BC. Member determined the vehicle wasn’t stolen but a search of the vehicle yielded various drugs. The driver was charged for several offences and the vehicle was seized due to it not having valid insurance or registration.
May 17
9:38 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 43 Ave – Complainant reported her home broken into while evacuated. Property stolen including a dirtbike and it appeared several people may have squatted in the residence. Under investigation.
12:48 p.m. – Tomahawk – File opened to assist Sheriff’s after a male fled from a traffic stop. Charges pending by Sheriff’s against a 44-year-old male who provided identification prior to taking off. Members from Drayton Valley and Evansburg assisted but the vehicle wasn’t located.
3:49 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Industrial Rd – Complainant reported that on May 4th at 11:41 pm a utility trailer was stolen from a lot. Under investigation.
4:23 p.m. – Parkland County – Hwy 624 – Member on patrol located a vehicle with a mismatched plate. A traffic stop was conducted and it was determined that the vehicle’s registration was expired and a different plate should be attached. Several illegal weapons were located in the vehicle, as well as a quantity of drugs and some break-in tools. The vehicle was towed and the driver was arrested on several new charges. At time of writing this report he was in custody awaiting a telephone bail hearing.
