The superintendent of the Wild Rose School Division says teachers and staff are ready to get a new school year underway.
Brad Volkman says they’re feeling good about where things are at, noting the implementation of a new curriculum for K-6 students.
“It’s one of those things our teachers and staff have been working hard to familiarize themselves with, these new outcomes and prepare materials. But the timelines have been short and teachers don’t have their whole year planned, but they’re always a few months ahead just cause of the lateness on which we got the curriculum and getting started on it.”
Meanwhile, in terms of any leftover COVID-19 protocols, Volkman says there’s nothing formal in place, but maybe a new way of thinking.
“All of the public health restrictions that we were asked to follow from Alberta Health Services last year, they’ve all been listed, but maybe there’s this increased sense carrying forward to emphasize some of the things that may be common sense, things like hand hygiene and just reminding students and staff to make that a priority.”
“We are excited to have students back starting September 1. This is what we live for as teachers and educators, helping kids learn. Kids fill us with energy. You know when they come into the classroom and their excited to see each other, its a special time of year. Our mission here at Wildrose School Division is to create powerful learning environments that focus on student learning and student well being,” adds Volkman.
The Wild Rose School Division has a staggered start to classes for the 2022-23 school year on Thursday, September 1 and Friday, September 2.
