The Town of Drayton Valley has completed its revision of the community standards bylaws.
The new bylaws were passed at council’s meeting on June 29.
The revised bylaws were first presented to Drayton Valley town council at their May 25 meeting.
The Town then embarked on an extensive public consultation campaign, culminating in an open house on June 15.
Based on the public consultations, Town administration did make some tweaks to the new bylaws.
One had to do with mowing lawns. Upon reviewing the laws, they did find a few lots that should be cut, but the new laws would allow people to not mow these lawns. To resolve this, an exception was created for land zoned as urban reserve that is being used for agricultural purposes.
Another tweak had to do with temporary residences. The original law said that someone could not live in an RV for more than seven consecutive days. Administration forgot to add the exemption, “unless in an area designated as a campground.” They went back and added it.
Council still had issue with that wording, however, noting someone could still live in their RV for more than seven days, if they just move to a separate location and start over again.
Administration decided the best way to resolve this would be to change the bylaw from consecutive days to cumulative days.
The Town is now undertaking an education campaign to inform people of the new bylaws.
