Brazeau County is marking success at the end of the first year of its Municipal Energy Management Program.
Brazeau County council received the report from their Municipal Energy Coordinator at their July 5 meeting.
According to the report, the County achieved an eight point one per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the first year of the program. This works out to around 76 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The plan has also been good for the County’s bank balance. The County saved more than $11,000 in energy costs. This stemmed from saving more than 41,000 kWh in electricity and 1055 gigajoules of natural gas.
Heading into year two of the Municipal Energy Management Program, the County says it is looking to bring in more energy conservation measures, install electric vehicle charging stations in the County, and have more in-person engagement activities with staff and residents.
