Phone booths are disappearing from the landscape, but one Drayton Valley organization sees they still serve a need.
Drayton Valley and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has installed a phone booth in front of Rotary House, located at 4743-46 Street in Drayton Valley.
FCSS held the opening ceremony on May 31, 2022. The phone booth offers free Canada-wide service, and FCSS is looking into allowing it to place free overseas calls as well.
In their statement, FCSS notes that this is a difficult time for some, and not everyone has a phone or the resources for minutes or a phone plan. They hope that this phone booth will allow residents the opportunity to stay connected, as well as offer the vulnerable community a connection to resources and supports.
FCSS is hoping to install a second phone booth in front of the Drayton Valley Civic Centre in July 2022.
