The Town of Drayton Valley is getting some federal help to make their facilities more environmentally friendly.
On May 30, 2022, the federal government and Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) announced that the Town is one of 16 municipalities across the county that is receiving funding through FCM’s Green Municipal Fund (GMF) Community Buildings Retrofit.
The program is to help municipalities undertake retrofits and other upgrades to lower emissions, improve energy performance, lower operating costs, and extend the life of community assets.
The Town will be using the funding to install monitoring hardware at the Omniplex and the Civic Centre. By collecting more data on how much energy the facilities use, officials say the Town will be able to better identify appropriate energy conservation measures and track how well they are working.
The GMF funding will cover most of the upfront costs of installing the hardware and establishing the monitoring system. Once the system is up and running, operating costs are anticipated to be minimal.
The Town was given $25,000 for the project.
