The Town of Drayton Valley is taking some extreme steps to carry out work on their Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The Town has announced that, starting on May 20, 2022, the Town will be releasing partially treated wastewater directly into the North Saskatchewan River. The Town says it needs to bypass two of their treatment lagoons in order to conduct the work.
The Town cautions that by taking these steps, it could impact the quality of wastewater treatment for the duration of the project. The Town says it has been working closely with Environment Canada and Alberta Environment and Parks to minimize the impact on the environment.
The Town will also be increasing sampling for the duration to monitor the quality of treated wastewater before releasing it.
Releasing partially treated wastewater is expected to end in October 2022.
