Residents of Drayton Valley will be seeing the slightest of tax increases in 2022.
At Drayton Valley town council’s May 4, 2022 meeting, council passed the new mill rates for 2022.
According to Town officials, the average homeowner will see their taxes going up by one point one four per cent.
When council passed their final operating budget in Feb. 2022, it projected a revenue increase of two point five per cent. However, the Town endeavoured to keep the tax increase as low as possible to minimize the impact to residents.
Of the projected two point five per cent revenue increase, two per cent will be going towards operating expenses and service delivery. The remaining zero point five per cent will go towards a sustainable tax levy which aims to see the sustainable management of Town infrastructure and assets.
The increased revenue is expected to help pay for Drayton Valley’s ambitious capital budget for 2022. Among the projects, is expanding the landfill, a new command truck for the fire department, and completion of the new Drayton Valley Brazeau Aquatic Centre.
In a statement, Drayton Valley mayor Nancy Dodds says it is an exciting time for the Town.
“While the last few years have been hard, I continue to look to the future and feel immense pride at the foundation we are building,” shares Dodds.
With the new mill rate passed, tax notices will be mailed out starting May 12, 2022.
