Drayton Valley is losing its dedicated COVID-19 testing and immunization site.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) announced on April 29 that they will be shutting down the site on April 30.
Drayton Valley’s site was at 5219 – 50 Street in downtown Drayton Valley.
In their statement, AHS says a reduced demand is the reason for closing the site.
AHS also says that you will still be able to pick up free antigen rapid test kits at participating pharmacies, and that PCR tests remain available for those who have clinical risk factors for severe outcomes and those who live and work in high-risk settings. They also ask you keep the closure of the site in mind when you book a vaccine appointment.
AHS will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Drayton Valley and Brazeau County, and will be ready to reopen a dedicated site should the need arise.
Drayton Valley is not the only community in Alberta losing its dedicated COVID-19 site. Rocky Mountain House, Drumheller, Wainwright, and Stettler are also having their sites shut down.
As of April 29, Drayton Valley and Brazeau County have had 61 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 7 days. For vaccination rates, 62 per cent of all people in the region have had one dose, 59 per cent have had two doses, and about 24 per cent have had three doses.
