
Brazeau County council is moving ahead with improvements to the Willey West Campground.
At County council’s April 19 meeting, council approved the addition of $12,000 to its 2022 operating budget to cover improvements to the shower house at the Willey West Campground.
The upgrades include installing new feed of appropriate size for the shower house, a new panel, and re-distributing power to nearby campsites.
The project was originally estimated to come in at $27,000. But, revisions to the Canadian Electrical Code in Feb. 2022 helped to increase costs by around $12,000.
The extra money is coming out of the Brazeau County Recreation Facilities Capital Investment (Willey West) Restricted Surplus.
Brazeau County is helping to patch up the Lindale Community Hall.
At County council’s April 19 meeting, council approved $40,000 in funding to the Lindale Community Hall Association, pending getting a matching grant from the Provincial government.
The Association will use the money to upgrade the kitchen facilities, flooring, and furnace.
The total cost is $118,000.
Brazeau County is in good financial shape.
At Brazeau County’s April 19 council meeting, council received the County’s audited financial statements from Phil Dirks of Metrix Group.
According to the statements, the County has $50 million in assets and $20 million in liabilities. The liabilities include $9.2 million in debt, and the County has a remaining debt capacity of $34 million.
By law, all municipalities must be audited every year. The County will be posting the audited financial statements to its website.
Brazeau County has approved its fee schedule for 2022.
The bylaw passed its three readings at Brazeau County council’s April 19 meeting.
There are some new fees for approaches, road use agreements, and pipeline crossings. There are some new fees for use of the Lindale Rodeo Grounds, but the grounds remain free for local non-profit groups.
