The Drayton Valley Thunder are on the brink of elimination in the AJHL playoffs, following April 12’s loss to the Spruce Grove Saints 2-1.
The Saints got things going early, as Caiden Gault scored just 33 seconds into the first period. Luigi Benincasa and Liam Watkins picked up the assists. It was 1-0 for the Saints at the end of the first.
The Thunder got their lone goal 52 seconds into the second, as Kadyn Chabot scored unassisted. But the Saints pulled ahead, as Cade Mason scored at 16:01, with Ewan McPherson and Graeme Bryks getting the assists. The score was 2-1 at the end of the second, and it remained that way through a scoreless third period.
The Saints continue to come on strong, outshooting the Thunder 32-20. Each team came up empty on the power plays. The Saints were 0 for 3, while the Thunder were 0 for 2.
With that victory, the Saints now lead the series 3-0. The Drayton Valley Thunder could be swept out when Game 4 goes down in the Drayton Valley Omniplex on April 13.
