A Drayton Valley man is facing 20 charges after several stolen vehicles were recovered from a property in Violet Grove.
Drayton Valley RCMP report that, on March 31, 2022, members of their General Investigation section, along with officers from their General Duty section and the Northern Alberta RCMP Auto Theft Unit, executed a search warrant on a rural property in Violet Grove.
Violet Grove is a hamlet around 7 km southwest of Drayton Valley.
As a result of the search, RCMP found and recovered five stolen pickup trucks and two stolen trailers. They also seized various types of ammunition and an explosive substance.
Michael Alexander Tymchak, a 40-year old from the Drayton Valley area, was arrested and charged with:
- Five counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Tampering with a vehicle identification number
- Four counts of failing to comply with release orders
- Four counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order
- Failure to comply with a probation order
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Two counts of flight from a police officer
Tymchak remains in custody until his court date in Drayton Valley Provincial Court on April 19, 2022 at 10 a.m.
In a statement, Cst. Cam Turner of the Drayton Valley RCMP General Investigation Section reaffirms the RCMP’s commitment to tackling rural crime.
“We understand that property crime is a major priority in rural Alberta and we will continue to ensure that these repeat property crime offenders are closely monitored to ensure that members of rural communities can continue to feel safe and secure.”
