The Drayton Valley Thunder stumbled in their playoff series against the Lloydminister Bobcats Tuesday night, losing 8-5 in the border city.
The Bobcats were first on the board at 10:05 of the first period when Jayven Leslie scored on the power play, with the assists going to Ben Bygrove and Ethan Aucoin. The Thunder then responded with two goals of their own. The first from Sammy May at 13:07, with an assist from Drew Sutton and Moe Hakim. Hakim then got another on his own, scoring on the power play at 16:36. The assist came from Rylan Brown. At the end of the first, it was 2-1 for Drayton Valley.
The Thunder came out strong in the second, scoring three times in the first five minutes. The first came from Daniel Kernaghan on the power play at 0:24, with the assist going to Brett Bamber. The next came at 1:08 from Evan Forrest with Grayson Reid and Rylan Brown picking up the assists. The third was courtesy of Kadyn Chabot on the power play at 3:53. The assists went to Grayson Reid and Brett Bamber.
The Bobcats then responded with four of their own. Chase Visser scored on the power play at 4:51, with an assist from Mack Stewart. Stewart then got one of his own at 7:25, with assists from Tanner Fincaryk and Zack Whittaker. Stewart scored another at 8:56, thanks to assists from Fincaryk and Ethan Aucoin. The period wrapped up with Nick Hoogendoorn scoring at 13:00, with assists coming from Connor Burke and Tyson Kowaluk. The second period ended with the Bobcats and Thunder in a 5-5 tie.
The Bobcats then went on to win the game by scoring three more unanswered goals in the third period. The first was an unassisted goal from Hassan Akl just 20 seconds in. The second came from Andon Coles at 6:15, with Tegan Skehar and Chad MacLean getting the assists. And it was all over at 18:50, as Ben Brygrove scored on an empty net. Kolby Thornton got the assist. The game ended 8-5 for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats did come on strong, outshooting the Thunder 51-36. The Bobcats were also better on the power play, going 2 for 3. The Thunder were 3 for 5.
Thanks to the Thunder winning the first two games, the Thunder still have a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 goes Mar. 9 in Lloydminister. The Thunder return home to the Drayton Valley Omniplex on Mar. 11 for Game 5.
