The Drayton Valley Health Foundation is getting ready for a busy 2022.
The Drayton Valley Health Foundation (DVHF) paid a visit to Drayton Valley town council on Mar. 2 to refresh the Town on what it is they do, and their upcoming projects.
The DVHF has been around since 1995, and has raised almost $6 million for equipment upgrades for many local healthcare facilities, particularly the Drayton Valley Hospital.
DVHF executive director Colleen Sekura reminded council that their main focus has always been on patient care.
“Our residents will ask us why Alberta Health Services is not providing this equipment,” explained Sekura. “We like to say it is like having an old Chevy pick-up or a Cadillac. We like our residents to have a Cadillac.”
Some of DVHF’s greatest successes have been raising $450,000 for a new helipad, and $1.8 million for a new CT scanner.
Sekura really had to highlight that the money for the CT scanner came from the people of Drayton Valley, as they did their fundraising at a time when oil prices bottomed out and corporate sponsorships were down.
“We have to give the people of Drayton Valley credit for putting that in our facility,” said Sekura.
To further their goals, DVHF has hosted several successful fundraisers in the past. DVHF has hosted dinner theatres, the Festival of Trees, and even brought the RCMP Musical Ride to the region.
In 2022, DVHF is looking to renovate the Palliative Care Unit at the Drayton Valley Hospital. They are looking to add two new suites, and have already purchased new beds and new mattresses for the existing suites. The cost is $700,000, and they are almost at their goal.
DVHF’s big fundraiser for 2022 is Medieval Times, which will be held in Drayton Valley in May.
Sekura promises jousters, knights, and even a fire eater.
Sekura was not asking the Town of Drayton Valley for sponsorship funds yet, but she was extending the invitation for everyone to come to Medieval Times.
“Call up your friends and family and tell them to come. This is a great event,” said Sekura.
Medieval Times is set for May 6 – 8. You can find more information at the Drayton Valley Health Foundation Facebook page.
