The Drayton Valley Thunder have split their home-and-home series against the Sherwood Park Crusaders, losing 2-1 to Sherwood Park on Wednesday night.
The Crusaders were first on the board. Evan Arnold scored at 7:50, with Cale Ashcroft and Mitchell Joss getting credited with the assists. The first ended with the Crusaders having a 1-0 lead.
That led into a scoreless second period. Thunder goalie Jackson Berry held steady, deflecting all 10 shots thrown his way.
The Crusaders increased their lead by two goals early in the third when Jason Desnoyers scored at 6:25, with assists coming from Mitchell Joss and Roman Cherniak. Kadyn Chabot was able to ensure it was not a shutout though, as he scored for the Thunder at 12:53. Ethan Browne and Brody Tallman assisted on the play. Final score was 2-1 for the Thunder.
The Thunder managed to outshoot the Crusaders 35-30. Both teams had unsuccessful power plays. The Thunder went 0 for 4, while the Crusaders were 0 for 2.
The Thunder are holding steady in fourth place in the Viterra AJHL North Division. They currently have 61 points, with a record of 27-14-7.
Feb. 2’s game was the start of a six game road trip for the Thunder. Next stop is Whitecourt on Feb. 4 to face the Wolverines.
