Breton RCMP assisted in the recovery of stolen trucks and the arrest of two suspects in Violet Grove.
RCMP tell us that on Jan. 5, 2022, members of the RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU) were conducting surveillance near Buck Lake in an area known to be frequented by criminals.
Officers observed two pick-up trucks driving together. RCMP share that one of the trucks matched the description of a truck stolen from Rocky Mountain House earlier that day. Officers followed the vehicles to a residence in Violet Grove.
When the officers entered the property, the two suspects attempted to flee in one of the trucks. Fortunately, the vehicle was disabled as it fled and officers were able to quickly and safely take the suspects into custody.
A subsequent search of the property found five additional stolen pick-up trucks and a stolen 5th wheel trailer. The trucks were stolen from Rocky Mountain House, Drayton Valley, Parkland County, Calmar, and Sangudo.
Jason Sylvain Roy, a 34-year old from Wetaskiwin, has been charged with seven counts of fail to comply with release conditions, two counts of possession of property by crime over $5000, and possession of a controlled substance. Roy was held in custody until his court date on Jan. 12 in Breton.
Derek Fernand Lavoie, a 32-year old from Brazeau County, has been charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, flight from police, and possession of a controlled substance. Lavoie was released from custody, and his court date set for Jan. 12 in Breton.
In a statement, CAD CRU acting unit commander Cpl. William Hiscock thanks the Breton and Thorsby RCMP detachments for their work.
“Thanks to our ability to seamlessly coordinate resources with both the Breton and Thorsby RCMP Detachments, our unit was able to successfully locate and monitor these two repeat offenders, as they lurked between RCMP jurisdictions, until they could be safely apprehended,” said Hiscock. “CAD CRU’s mandate to investigate multi-jurisdictional offenders in partnership with Central Alberta District Detachments makes it more difficult for these types of offenders to commit crimes and victimize Albertans in one county and run and hide in another.”
