It looks to be a bright future for the Town of Drayton Valley.
In a year-end interview with Big West Country, Drayton Valley Mayor Nancy Dodds says Drayton Valley has reason to be optimistic.
Dodds was elected to her first term as mayor in the fall of 2021, and says she and the new council have been working quite well together.
“A new year will bring a team that is committed to sustainable infrastructure, asset management, and building a rural post-secondary hub,” says Dodds.
The focus on post-secondary education is an initiative that Dodds particularly highlighted, thanks to various programs such as the Zero Fee Tuition program.
“We are looking at adding new post-secondary partners coming up in 2022, and expanding on our programs, and just looking forward to students in Drayton Valley and the area accessing this amazing program that really removes barriers and creates hope,” explains Dodds.
Another project that will see completion in 2022 is a new aquatic centre. The new swimming pool is a joint project with Brazeau County. Dodds says it will bring new life to the region.
“It will create opportunities for us to host swim competitions and just really improve the quality of life for our residents and expand on potential economic opportunities as well,” adds Dodds.
She acknowledges the past few years have been rough, due to the economic downturn and the COVID-19 pandemic, but notes Drayton Valley has been working hard to get through it.
“We have really come together as a community, and weathered through this storm,” praises Dodds. “I think that it is important that we continue to work together.”
Add into the mix that new businesses are starting to open up in Drayton Valley and the oil and gas sector starting to rebound, Dodds believes there are great things in store for the community.
“It will be nice to see the next few years progressively move forward in our community. We definitely need it,” says Dodds.
