A busy weekend for the Drayton Valley Thunder, as they lost on the road but won at home.
On Dec. 17, the Thunder were down in Camrose to take on the Kodiaks. The Kodiaks beat the Thunder 3-1.
It was a scoreless first period, as Thunder goalie Jackson Berry turned away all nine of the Kodiaks’ shots. Kodiaks netminder Spencer Welke was equally tough, stopping all eight of the Thunders’ shots.
The Thunder got on the board at 9:10 of the second period, as Hunter Price scored with an assist from Brett Bamber. The Kodiaks would not let that stand, as they tied the game at 16:34. Carson Whyte scored, picking up assists from Owen Dean and Jarod Newell. With 24 seconds left, the Kodiaks scored again. Ryan Sullivan received the assist from Jarod Newell and Carson Whyte. At the end of the second, the Kodiaks had a 2-1 lead. The Kodiaks outshot the Thunder 13-5.
In the third period, the Kodiaks picked up the insurance goal at 9:21. Michael Horon was assisted by Noah Alvarez and Jarod Newell. Final score was 3-1 for the Kodiaks. The Kodiaks outshot the Thunder 8-6 in the final period.

Dec. 18, the Thunder were back home in the Drayton Valley Omniplex where they beat the Lloydminister Bobcats 5-3.
The Thunder got things going in the first period, as Brett Bamber scored on the power play at 10:58. Hunter Price and Kadyn Chabot assisted on the play. At the end of the first, the Thunder had a 1-0 lead. The Thunder outshot the Bobcats 23-11.
The Thunder went on to dominate in the second period. Hunter Price scored and was assisted by Ethan Browne and Kadyn Chabot at 7:57. Tyler Blocha then scored on the power play at 11:32, thanks to assists from Noah Lamb and Moe Hakim. Then another power play, another goal, as Ethan Browne scored at 16:47, with assists from Rylan Brown and Kadyn Chabot. At the end of the second, the Thunder had a 4-0 lead. The Thunder outshot the Bobcats 16-5.
The Bobcats came out fighting in the third, as Zafir Rawji scored with assists from Jared Miller and Luke Busby at 7:25. The Thunder responded at 8:44, as Daniel Kernaghan picked up a shorthanded goal, thanks to an assist from Grayson Reid. The Bobcats got another on the power play, as Matthew Swanson was assisted by Mack Stewart and Tegan Skehar. Tanner Fincaryk of the Bobcats managed to get one last goal in the final minute, scoring at 19:02. He was assisted by Mack Stewart and Matthew Swanson. The final score was 5-3 for the Thunder. The Bobcats outshot the Thunder 13-6 in the third.
Heading into the Christmas break, the Thunder are sitting at fourth place in the Viterra AJHL North Division. They have 43 points with a record of 19-11-5.
The Thunder return to action on Dec. 30, playing their final home game of 2021 against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
