Another victorious weekend for the Drayton Valley Thunder, as they counted two more wins over the weekend.
The first was on Dec. 10, when they beat the Camrose Kodiaks 6-4.
The Thunder dominated the first period, racking up three goals in the final six minutes. At 14:06, Daniel Kernaghan scored with assists from Grayson Reid and Evan Forrest. At 15:43, Tyler Blocha scored with assists from Moe Hakim and Luca Ricci. Then at 18:44, Kadyn Chabot scored with assists from Hunter Price and Brody Tallman. At the end of the first, the Thunder had a comfortable 3-0 lead. The Thunder managed to outshoot the Kodiaks 18-7.
The Thunder looked to keep it up in the second, as Hunter Price scored on the power play just 13 seconds in. Price was assisted by Stephen Kirkpatrick and Ethan Browne. The Kodiaks finally got on the board at 10:58, as Robert Kincaid scored with assists coming from Ryan Sullivan and Owen Dean to make it 4-1 for Drayton Valley. The Thunder showed strength on the power play, however, as Kadyn Chabot scored at 13:47, assisted by Ethan Browne and Brett Bamber to make it 5-1. Then it was another power play and another goal for the Thunder, as Moe Hakim scored with assists from Drew Sutton and Tyler Blocha to make it 6-1. The Kodiaks managed to get one more before the end of the second, as Carson Whyte scored at 19:10. Graydon Gotaas and Robert Kinkaid assisted on the play. As the second drew to a close, the Thunder were still sitting pretty with a 6-2 lead. The Kodiaks outshot the Thunder, 18-9.
Not going down without a fight, the Kodiaks came on strong in the third. At 11:20, Luke German scored, with assists from Robert Kincaid and Mathieu Gautier. The Kodiaks nabbed one more before the end of the third, as Owen Dean scored with assists from Ryan Sullivan and Carson Whyte. The Kodiaks outshot the Thunder 12-4, but it was not enough, as the Thunder won 6-4.
The Thunder had the more successful power play though, going three for five, which the Kodiaks were zero for two.

Next victory for the Thunder was on Dec. 12, as they beat the visiting Calgary Canucks 6-3.
The Thunder got things going early at 3:10, as Daniel Kernaghan scored with an assist from Ethan Casper. The Canucks responded in kind, as Dylan Clark scored with the assist coming from Justin Barker. But the Thunder pulled ahead at 16:06, as Brett Bamber scored with Luca Ricci and Daniel Kernaghan assisting on the play. At the end of the first, it was 2-1 for the Thunder. The Canucks outshot the Thunder 16-12.
The Thunder were first out of the gate in the second period, scoring at 2:08. Drew Sutton received the assist from Tyler Blocha and Moe Hakim. The Canucks fought hard, though, as Matt Corbet scored with Dylan Price earning the assist. The Canucks managed to tie the game 3-3 at 17:07, as Matthew Brunton scored, assisted by Conner Bertamini. But with 36 seconds left in the period, the Thunder broke the tie, as Evan Forrest scored, thanks to helpers from Brett Bamber and Brody Tallman. The Thunder marinated their one goal lead at the end of the second, 4-3. The Canucks narrowly outshot the Thunder, 14-11.
The Thunder fought hard in the third, outshooting the Canucks 15-3. And that work paid off, as Noah Lamb picked up the insurance goal at 16:44 to make it 5-3. Lamb was assisted by Hunter Price and Ethan Browne. The Thunder widened their lead at 18:16, as Tyler Blocha scored, with an assist from Moe Hakim and Drew Sutton. Final score was 6-3 for the Thunder.
The Thunder are now ranked fourth in the Viterra AJHL North Division, with 41 points and a record of 18-10-5.
