Brazeau County is making efforts to go greener.
Over the summer, the County finished its latest solar project, which added a new solar system to the Violet Grove Lagoon.
The system consists of 64 solar panels, and generates enough power to run the aeration system for the newly constructed Floating Wetlands over the lagoon. They also supply power to the nearby transfer station.
The County now has over 900 solar panels at various County facilities, including the Breton Fire Hall, Lodgepole Fire Hall, Rocky Rapids Water Treatment Plant, and the County Administration building. Altogether, the systems produce enough electricity to power 25 average homes.
In a statement, County reeve Bart Guyon praises the new system.
“Combined, these projects will offset almost 150 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, which helps reduce the County’s carbon footprint,” says Guyon.
Funding for the project will come in part from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Alberta Municipal Solar Program.
