The Drayton Valley Municipal Library is now taking performers for this year’s From Home Christmas Concert.
Performers from across the region can sign up, and on Dec. 2, will be performing live over Zoom in a virtual Christmas concert.
Verna Wicks, Youth and Adult Programming Coordinator for the Library, came up with the concept last year. COVID-19 restrictions prevented the Library from doing their typical Christmas programming.
“I thought, why not make use of the technology that we have got – Zoom meetings and so on – and allow people to entertain us from their own home, and enjoy that entertainment in our own home,” says Wicks.
The Library’s first virtual concert in Dec. 2020 was so popular that they also did ones for Easter and Alberta Culture Days.
Wicks tells us, they are open to any age group and any level of skill. She has been amazed at the talent that has come out so far.
“We have had kids to seniors, and a variety of instruments,” says Wicks. “Guitars, bagpipes, fiddles, piano, and singers as well.”
Wicks also says that if the time of the From Home Christmas Concert does not work for you, they will also accept pre-recorded segments.
The From Home Christmas Concert takes place on Dec. 2, starting at 6 p.m. It will be broadcast over Zoom, and the Drayton Valley Municipal Library Facebook page.
