The Drayton Valley Thunder are one and one for the weekend.
The one loss came on Nov. 12 as they went down 5-1 against the Brooks Bandits.
The Bandits got the ball rolling at 2:31 when Ethan Lund scored, getting the assist from Liam Hughes and Brendan Poshak to make it 1-0 Brooks. The Bandits scored again at 12:51, as Liam Hughes scored, picking up assists from Nicholas DeGraves and Dominick Campione. The Bandits were leading 2-0 at the end of the first. The Bandits got twice as many shots on net as the Thunder, getting 22 compared to the Thunder’s 10.
The Thunder got on the board in the second period, however, as Brody Tallman scored at 6:33 on the power play. Rylan Brown and Kadyn Chabot assisted on the play. The Bandits retaliated, though, as Dario Beljo scored at 11:22 on the power play. TJ Hughes and Zach Bookman assisted on the play. The Bandits continued to lead at the end of the second, 3-1. The Thunder managed to outshoot the Bandits, though, getting 13 shots on net compared to the Bandits’ 12.
The Bandits utterly dominated in the third period, getting 20 shots on net compared to 6 for the Thunder. TJ Hughes scored on the power play at 12:40, picking up assists from Ryan McAllister and Zach Bookman to make it 4-1. The Thunder decided to pull their goalie, but it worked out for the Bandits instead as they scored on the empty net at 14:23. Jack Seymour got the assist from Brendan Mairs and Hughie Hooker. Final score was 5-1 for the Bandits.
The Thunder got to rest on Saturday, before facing the Canmore Eagles on Nov. 14. The rest served the Thunder well, as they beat the Eagles 3-2 in a shootout.
The Thunder got the scoring going in the first, as Jack Silverberg scored at 3:58. Andrew Larson and Evan Forrest assisted on the play. At the end of the first, it was 1-0 for the Thunder. The Thunder dominated in the first, outshooting the Eagles 18-8.
The Thunder kept the momentum going in the second period, scoring at 8:53. Drew Sutton got the assist from Hunter Price to make it 2-0. The Eagles finally got on the board though, as Evan Waldie scored at 13:21. Vincent Scott and Isaac Suppin assisted on the play. The two team were a little more even, as the Thunder got 10 shots on net compared to the Eagles’ 9. At the end of the second, the Thunder were still leading 2-1.
The Eagles managed to tie things up at 3:14 into the third period, however. Isaac Suppin scored with assists from Evan Waldie and Vincent Scott. The Eagles managed 13 shots on net in the third compared to the Thunder’s 7. At the end of the third, the game was tied 2-2.
After a scoreless overtime period, the game went to a shootout. Tyler Blocha got one in for the Thunder, and one was all they needed to give the Thunder the win.
The Thunder now have a record of 12-8-4 for the season.
The Thunder are on the road next weekend, starting in Sherwood Park on Nov. 19 to face the Crusaders.
