The Drayton Valley Thunder went one for one in their games this weekend, defeating Drumheller on Friday but losing to Spruce Grove on Saturday.
On Oct. 29, the Drumheller Dragons came through Drayton, and made a stop at the Drayton Valley Omniplex.
The Dragons came on strong in the first, outshooting the Thunder 15 to 4. But it was not enough, as it turned into a scoreless first period.
In the second period, the Thunder got onto the board just 20 seconds in, as Kadyn Chabot scored with an assist from Tyler Blocha. The Thunder added another goal on the power play as Moe Hakim scored with assists from Rylan Brown and Grayson Reid at 11:58. The Dragons finally got on the board at 14:34, as Luke Fennig scored with an assist from Ty Whitford. At the end of the second, the Thunder were leading 2-1.
The Dragons came out fighting in the third, however, outshooting the Thunder 10 to 9. But one was all they needed, as Grayson Dietrich scored on the power play, getting assists from Carter Belitski and Vann Yuhas. With the Dragons’ goal at the 8:00 mark, the score remained tied 2-2 for the rest of the third period, forcing overtime. After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout.
In the shootout, Grayson Dietrich and Ty Whitford scored for the Dragons. But Moe Hakim, Daniel Kernaghan and Stephen Kirkpatrick scored for the Thunder, giving the Thunder a final score of 3-2.

It was no rest for the Thunder though, as on Oct. 30 they went up to Spruce Grove to take on the Saints.
The Saints came on strong in the first period, outshooting the Thunder 14 to 7. But one was all the Thunder needed, as Kadyn Chabot scored with an assist from Brody Tallman at 8:52. At the end of the first, the Thunder were leading 1-0.
The Saints kept it up in the second period, outshooting the Thunder 15 to 8. Thanks to their power, the Saints managed to slip two in the net. At 7:53, Luigi Benincasa scored with assists from Brett Pfoh and Jaden Senkoe. Then at 15:40, Caden Cabana scored with assists from Luigi Benincasa and Liam Watkins. By the end of the second, the Saints had taken a 2-1 lead.
The Saints kept it up in the third, outshooting the Thunder 12 to 10. The Saints managed to slip in another on the power play, as Bryan McAndrews scored, getting assists from Jacob Rochford and Nikola Jovanovic at 13:44. The Thunder then managed to get one more on the board, as Daniel Kernaghan scored with an assist from Hunter Price at 15:45. It was not enough, as the Saints won the game 3-2.
The Thunder now drop to fifth in the AJHL’s Viterra North Division, with an 8-6-4 record on the season. The Thunder are back in action Nov. 3, when the Whitecourt Wolverines come to town.
