St. Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic School Division has committed to the 2026 Leduc and Area Trauma, Violence and Suicide Prevention (TVSP) Protocol.
The division joins community organizations, municipalities, other school divisions and protective services in reaffirming their shared commitment to creating safer, more supportive communities. Many community representatives signed the updated protocol on Oct. 8.
STAR Catholic explains that the protocol establishes a coordinated approach to preventing and responding to trauma, violence and suicide loss across Leduc and surrounding communities. It is designed to strengthen communication between community partners, encourage early intervention and ensure individuals and families have access to supports when challenges arise.
“The safety and well-being of our students will always be a priority at STAR Catholic, and we know that creating safe and supportive environments require [sic] all stakeholders to work together,” said Laurie Kardynal, Superintendent. “This protocol strengthens the relationships we have with our community partners and helps ensure that when concerns arise, we can respond with care, compassion and wraparound services to support our students, families and communities.”
The protocol focuses on three interconnected areas: Traumatic Event Systems (TES), Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) and Community Suicide Prevention and Response (CSPR).
The division says the signing recognizes that keeping children and communities safe requires a collective effort. By establishing a coordinated response, officials say participating organizations are better positioned to address issues early and respond effectively.
