Drayton Valley town council has passed second and third readings of a borrowing bylaw to purchase a portable office addition for the local RCMP detachment.
Borrowing Bylaw 2026/02/F allows the town to borrow $606,678 for the purchase. The bylaw was approved during council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 7.
According to administration’s presentation, the lifespan of the investment is expected to be greater than or equal to 20 years.
During debate, Councillor Colin Clarke explained, “When it comes to infrastructure, these are the sorts of things that we want to debenture — so, looking longer term, pay these things out over a number of years versus paying it out now, so that’s why we are doing debenture on this particular project. It’s a needed project.”
He added that the detachment was built when the town had approximately 15 members serving it; it now has over 20, in addition to administrative staff.
Before passing the bylaw, a public hearing was held. No members of the community spoke in favour or in opposition of the bylaw.
