Brazeau County is contributing $20,000 toward a roof replacement for the Senior Citizens’ Club of Drayton Valley.
Council approved the contribution during its regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 6.
The club has operated the building for 28 years, and the roof has reportedly reached the end of its service life and requires replacement. It has found a contractor that can begin the replacement this month for about $130,000.
As Councillor Glen Gunderson reported, Brazeau County contributed $90,000 to the club’s purchase of the building. In addition to that investment, an estimated 40 of the club’s 150 members are county residents. He also said talks with club officials indicate the issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible to prevent further damage from water leaking.
The club has also applied for provincial grant funding and municipal funding from the Town of Drayton Valley, and is pursuing various fundraising efforts.
The contribution is expected to be taken from the Major Facility Capital Investment Reserve.
