Drayton Valley residents are invited to a public hearing regarding a proposed borrowing bylaw.
On Oct. 7, residents can provide their input on whether the town should borrow up to $606,628 to fund a modular addition to the local RCMP Detachment.
According to the Sept. 16 council agenda, the RCMP has outgrown its existing office space, limiting operational efficiency and its ability to meet current and future staffing needs.
The town says a modular addition could provide additional space as a cost-effective and timely solution. If the borrowing bylaw for the project is approved, officials expect the modular facility to be purchased, delivered and installed this year.
Administration said it recommends borrowing the funding as it would allow the town to proceed promptly and distribute the capital costs over the lifespan of the asset.
The public hearing takes place at 9 a.m. in the council chambers of the Drayton Valley Civic Centre. Following the hearing, council will consider second, and potentially third, reading. Council passed first reading on Sept. 16.
Questions can be directed to the town at 780-514-2200.
