September 3
8:44 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Two subpoenas received to be served on persons living in the area.
12:45 p.m. – Brazeau County – File opened to investigate allegations of sexual interference against a minor.
1:10 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported a neighbour’s child was outside in the rain without shoes on. Members attended and learned the child had been arguing with a sibling and went outside; both had stayed home from school that day. Members determined there was some turmoil in the residence but nothing criminal. The family has been connected to additional community resources.
September 4
5:52 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported two males sleeping in the vestibule of an apartment building. Member attended and woke the pair; they were from out of town and had been in police custody for unrelated charges. The vehicle they arrived in had been towed during the related investigation as it was uninsured. The pair left the area to continue trying to find a ride home.
9:57 a.m. – Drayton Valley – School Resource Officer received a report from one youth that another youth wants to fight him. SRO familiar with both youth; some advice was given to avoid conflicts, and parents were advised. No fight had occurred.
10:41 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Members attended a residence to assist paramedics with an unresponsive female. Paramedics stopped treatment after a medical directive was located. Death not suspicious; medical examiner not investigating further.
1:44 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported ongoing harassment by her ex-boyfriend who continues to message her despite her stated lack of interest in talking. Under investigation.
2:02 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Request received to serve a subpoena on a male residing locally. Member determined the male is no longer in the area or the country.
3:25 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a small quantity of narcotics missing from a care home. A person was named but there is no direct evidence. An internal investigation is continuing.
September 5
1:46 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Member observed poor driving behaviour from a vehicle that had been seen at the bar. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver provided two breath samples, both resulted in a “fail.” A 90-day provincial impaired driving suspension was issued and the truck was impounded. Drinking and driving is just dumb, and can be both costly and deadly.
2:05 a.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported being the victim of a domestic assault; the suspect had since left the residence and had been drinking. The suspect vehicle was observed by Evansburg RCMP travelling at high speeds on Highway 16. Eventually, members were able to follow the suspect vehicle to a lease road north of Cynthia where the suspect purposely drove the vehicle into a body of water and was arrested after swimming to shore. The male was charged with multiple offences; he was held for a telephone bail hearing and released by a justice of the peace on a cash bail with conditions and a court date.
7:18 a.m. – Poplar Ridge – Complainant reported an unknown male was backed up to his businesses’ scrap metal bin helping himself to contents. Member attended but the truck had left. Member suggested signage to advise scavenging was not allowed.
10:11 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Northview Pond area – Complainant reported that overnight a laptop and cigarettes were stolen from his truck. Suspect gained entry to the garage and was able to access the unlocked truck. Under investigation, suspect described as a taller male of slim build.
1:10 p.m. – Poplar Ridge – Complainant wanted to retrieve her cat from her deceased ex’s residence. Member spoke to family who granted permission for the cat to be picked up.
8:45 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Ring Road – Member conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle observed speeding and driving erratically. The driver provided samples of his breath which confirmed he was driving impaired. A provincial impaired driving suspension was issued and the vehicle was impounded.
September 6
1:38 a.m. – Poplar Ridge – A traffic stop was conducted on a truck that appeared to be evading police who were patrolling the area. The driver provided two samples of his breath, both resulted in a “fail.” A provincial impaired driving suspension was issued and the truck was impounded.
7:00 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 62 St – Complaint reported a female trying to sleep on the lawn of a business. Member attended and provided a ride to a more appropriate location.
10:40 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported finding a tent on private property near river. Member attended and found the site unoccupied. Member left a physical message advising the occupants to vacate the area. Drayton Valley Enforcement Services also advised.
11:20 a.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported that he had been released from custody on conditions and that the person he is to have no contact with keeps texting him. Member spoke to the other party and told them to stop trying to contact the complainant. No offences as the complainant is the person on conditions.
12:40 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Powerhouse Campus – Complainant reported that his child had a rock thrown at them. Member investigated and learned that the child sprayed water at a teenager who then threw a rock back. No injuries and the suspect involved was not identified.
2:04 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Complainant reported that a female in an SUV had driven into the ditch and alcohol was observed in the vehicle. The complainant then left the scene, but shortly after the suspect vehicle, presumably having escaped the ditch, was following and trying to ram the complainant off the road. Members located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled. A pursuit was initiated and Rocky Mountain House RCMP members were able to disable the vehicle using a tire deflation device (aka spike belt). Members followed until the vehicle came to a stop and the driver was arrested. A 59-year-old woman was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, operation while impaired, failing to provide a breath sample and assault with a weapon. She was also issued several violation tickets. The woman was held for a telephone bail hearing with the bonus of having time to sober up, then was released by a justice of the peace with conditions and a court date.
4:27 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported an erratic female at a fast-food restaurant. Member attended but the female had left.
5:09 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported that overnight several items were stolen from his wife’s vehicle that had been left unlocked. No suspects identified.
7:56 p.m. – Brazeau County – Third-party complainant requested a well-being check on a male who may be trying to end his life due to medical issues. Members attended and found the male in an unresponsive state; paramedics attended and transported the male to hospital in Edmonton for treatment.
September 7
9:20 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a male stole a jug of windshield washer fluid. Member contacted the owner of the vehicle involved who was apologetic and had simply forgot to pay for the fluid after purchasing other items in the store; he agreed to return and pay for the jug of washer fluid.
10:17 a.m. – Brazeau County – area of the dam – Complainant reported their Argo all-terrain vehicle had been stolen overnight from their campsite near the dam; the key had been left in the unit. Member attended, no suspects or evidence located, and the complaint and friends had already searched the area. The Argo has been added to police database as stolen.
1:26 p.m. – Brazeau County – Members responded to a collision involving a motorcycle at the dam. Members determined that a rider in a group of four hit a large pothole while crossing the spillway, lost control and hit the guardrail causing serious injuries. Luckily the rider missed colliding head on into a pickup travelling the opposite direction or being thrown over the guardrail into water. The rider was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
5:41 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 45 St – Complainant reported his 2006 VW Jetta stolen from where it had been parked on the street. Several suspects were named. Under investigation.
5:59 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant requested a member meet with her to discuss some issues involving her separation from her ex-boyfriend. Member attempting to contact the complainant for followup.
September 8
2:31 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a male acquaintance is harassing him by sending texts from an unknown number. Member spoke to the second male who claimed that the complainant is sending him nonsense, also from an unknown number. Member was unable to reach the complainant for followup.
5:32 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Staff in a store reported a female acting strangely, possibly impaired by drugs. Staff suspected she was trying to steal things. Member attended and located the female who had consumed an illicit substance, but was able to pay for her selected items and then leave the store.
10:42 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Staff at a fast-food restaurant reported a female disrobing in the parking lot. Members attended and arrested the female, who was high; she was held in cells until sober and released.
September 9
10:33 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 Ave – Two complainants requested a well-being check on a female sleeping on a bench in someone’s front yard. Member attended and found that the known female was fine though she had been placed on the bench by some workers in the area after reportedly having a minor medical issue. The female declined to be seen by paramedics and left the area on foot.
12:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Skatepark area – Complainant reported a fight at the skate park. Member attended and determined that one youth had given his car keys to several younger youths so they could listen to music in the vehicle. One of the youths then decided to take the car for a little drive, which upset the owner who apparently dispersed his own justice. Under investigation.
12:52 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported that his ex-girlfriend has been persistent in trying to contact his current girlfriend. Member confirmed that the new girlfriend did not want contact with her predecessor. Member contacted the ex-girlfriend who agreed to cease the behaviour.
1:32 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported that a male who is on conditions to have no-contact with him had been yelling in his yard and the complainant suspected it was directed toward him. Member spoke to both parties but was unable to confirm any intentional breach of conditions.
7:15 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Third-party complaint that an elderly female had been found unconscious in her residence by family and that an ambulance had not yet attended. Member confirmed that paramedics attended and that the female was transported to hospital for treatment.
9:53 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Staff at a restaurant reported a female ordered food and was then observed taking a handful of medications. Member responded but the female had left the location on foot and was not found in the area.
10:39 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Hospital – Staff requested information on a female who had been given a courtesy ride to the location. Member spoke to staff and provided more background.
September 10
5:52 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Staff at the hospital reported that the female from the previous file had left the hospital and may be a danger to herself. The female was located and lodged in cells to sober up.
