Devon and Parkland RCMP have officially integrated their policing operations in an effort to strengthen public safety through enhanced collaboration, resource sharing and increased operational capacity across the region.
Under the new model, policing services in Devon operate within the Parkland RCMP Detachment while maintaining a presence in the Town of Devon. The RCMP says residents will continue to have access to local policing services, while benefiting from additional resources, specialized support and greater operational flexibility.
This change follows a pilot project which officials say successfully demonstrated benefits for both communities. By working as an integrated team, police say officers can be deployed more efficiently, and resources can be shared across municipal boundaries.
“The integration of Devon and Parkland policing operations represents an important step forward for policing in the region,” comments Inspector Kevin McGillivray, Officer in Charge, Parkland RCMP. “Throughout the pilot project, we saw positive improvements both operationally and administratively. Bringing our resources together enhances our ability to respond to community needs, provides greater support to our officers and gives us increased flexibility to deploy resources where they are needed most. Most importantly, residents can continue to expect professional, effective and responsive policing services. We look forward to building on the success of the pilot as we move into this new era of policing in Devon.”
Officials say one of the most significant benefits for Devon residents is the resulting transition from overnight on-call policing to 24-7 coverage.
The Devon RCMP Detachment will also remain open and active Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
“For Devon residents, this partnership means stronger, more coordinated policing while maintaining a dedicated RCMP presence in the community. By working more closely with the Parkland Detachment, our local officers have access to a broader team, additional resources and greater flexibility to respond when and where they are needed,” says Devon Mayor Jeff Craddock. “Ultimately, this strengthens our ability to provide consistent and effective policing and keep our communities safe.”
The integration took effect on Aug. 14. It comes as Devon reports positive trends in key crime categories.
According to the Devon RCMP, between January and May 2026, compared to the same period last year:
- Crimes against persons decreased by 15 per cent, including a reduction in robberies from three incidents in 2025 to zero in 2026;
- Overall property crime decreased by 25 per cent;
- Break and enters declined from five incidents to two;
- Vehicle thefts decreased from nine incidents to two;
- And theft-under occurrences decreased significantly, from 40 files in 2024 to four files in 2026.
