According to the latest RCMP report, break-ins and vehicle thefts in Breton decreased this year.
Brazeau County council received an update on the latest statistics from the Thorsby/Breton RCMP Detachment during its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 1.
In the latest reporting period, January to July this year, break-ins were down 32.1 per cent compared to the same period in 2025. The number of reported break-ins was 19 this year, down from 28 last year.
Reports of motor vehicle thefts also decreased by about 33 per cent compared to last year, from 21 to 14.
Incidents of theft under $5,000 also saw a 26.9 per cent drop, down from 52 to 38.
These changes contributed to an overall 22.5 per cent decrease in total criminal code offences for the reporting period.
The only offence to notably increase was uttering threats, which increased to 21 reports in 2026 from 12 in 2025, a 75 per cent change.
