Brazeau County council has approved a transfer of $287,000 from the Major Facility Capital Investment Reserve to support a culvert replacement on Township Road 500.
The total project cost is $1,148,000, but the county recently received notice that its application to the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) was successful. The resulting $861,000 grant covers about 75 per cent of the total cost.

The project will see a culvert at Township Road 500 and Range Road 52 replaced, which officials say should improve the structural integrity and drainage of the road.
The county intends to complete the engineering and design work for the project in 2027, with construction beginning in 2028.
Administration said those designs may include an option for additional road upgrades, which could include the installation of a longer culvert.
During the same meeting on Sept. 1, council also received updates on additional bridge files that were awaiting funding decisions.
A STIP application was also made for BF71598 (Range Road 42, south of Township Road 475), which was denied. In its explanation, the province said the intake period was very competitive, as the volume of applications exceeded the funding available.
The county also applied for funding for BF13214 (Township Road 494, east of Highway 22) through the Drought and Flood Protection Program, which was also denied. In its letter of explanation, the province said the possibility of future flood damage was a concern.
