A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect east of Drayton Valley, near Cynthia and Lodgepole.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
The storms are expected to develop in western Alberta early this afternoon and progress northeastward throughout the day.
ECCC officials warn, heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions in visibility, while large hail can cause significant damage and injury.
