Following heavy weekend rains over June 20-21, Parkland County has issued a flood alert for the Hamlet of Wabamun.
The flood alert went into effect on the evening of June 21, and as of 4:50 p.m. on June 22, it is still in effect.
Heavy rain has pushed the wastewater system to capacity, and officials say localized flooding and backups have been reported in individual homes and businesses.
Hamlet residents are asked to follow the guidelines below to help reduce pressure on the wastewater system and avoid additional sewer backups and flooding:
- Reduce all non-essential water use
- Avoid washing dishes, doing laundry or showering
- Limit toilet flushing to essential use only
- Business must also reduce water usage and wastewater discharge where possible
Residents are also advised to stay away from creeks, stormwater ponds and other areas affected by high water.
