Brazeau County council has adopted its 2026-2029 Strategic Plan, which outlines the four priorities that will guide council’s decisions as it plans for the future.
With consideration of council priorities, as well as resident input collected during the 2025 election campaign, council identified the following four priorities to guide its work:
- A residents-first philosophy
- Affordable, healthy rural living
- Growth and opportunity
- Advancing and investing in infrastructure
In the document, a message from Reeve Bart Guyon says these priorities reflect what residents care about most: “strong communication, good roads and services, recreation and quality of life, responsible spending and creating opportunities that keep Brazeau County strong and sustainable for the next generation.”
According to the plan, each priority also highlights key tasks or actions that should help advance council’s goals.
Under a residents-first philosophy, the county has identified two key deliverables:
- Create updated policies regarding emerging industries and technologies.
- Update council Communication Policy to ensure the county is demonstrating continued and persistent communication with residents.
When it comes to healthy and affordable rural living, decisions will be guided by the results of the Recreation Master Plan, which the county says should indicate where to invest in residents’ quality of life. The overarching goal is to integrate nature, recreation and the local economy to support everyday well-being.
In the pursuit of long-term sustainability and a diverse and resilient community, council has identified three actionable goals:
- Finalize the county’s economic development strategy.
- Update the Municipal Development Plan- this will ensure that growth in the county will be well-planned and consistent with council and community aspirations.
- Devise, promote and market opportunities and incentives to attract residents to the area.
Finally, council will invest in and advance infrastructure through the following actions:
- Continue to develop the Asset Management Strategy (Long Term Capital Plan) to completion so that the county may make data-driven decisions on where best to invest.
- Place an emphasis on community standards and improving the appearance and attractiveness of the community to residents, visitors and investors.
The Strategic Plan was adopted by council during its regularly scheduled meeting on June 2.
