A family boating near Onoway was safely rescued by Parkland RCMP earlier this week.
On June 3 at 7:55 p.m., Parkland RCMP received a report of a disabled inflatable boat on Devil’s Lake, east of Onoway.
An adult male and two children were reportedly on board when the motor failed, stranding them in the weeds.
Police say the adult was well prepared and made efforts to restart the motor, but contacted the RCMP for assistance once all options were exhausted.
“Being prepared for emergencies on the water can make all the difference in getting home safely,” comments Corporal Cuneyt Zanbak of the Parkland RCMP. “Have a plan, bring a charged cell phone and tell someone where you’re going. In the event of an emergency, first responders will be able to locate you quickly.”
The detachment says detailed information provided by the caller allowed first responders to quickly deploy a boat, locate the stranded individuals and rescue them without incident.
