UPDATE: Oct. 12
The missing boater was found deceased on Oct. 10. Breton RCMP and the Central Alberta Dive Society (CARDS) team located and recovered him. The missing boater was an 83 year-old male, of Winfield, Alta. Police have been in contact with next of kin.
Several emergency services, including Breton RCMP and Drayton Valley Search and Rescue, are searching Buck Lake for a missing boater.
Breton RCMP got the call on Oct. 5 at around 11:50 a.m. The report was of a boat anchored in the lake with a missing elderly male boater.
Breton RCMP went out to Buck Lake to begin a search. Breton RCMP, Wetaskiwin RCMP, Wetaskiwin County Fire Services, South Pigeon Lake Fire Services, and Drayton Valley Search and Rescue searched the lake. Breton RCMP and Thorsby RCMP searched the surrounding ground.
On Oct. 6, Breton and Thorsby RCMP, along with the Central Alberta Recovery Dive Society, returned to the lake to continue the search.
Breton RCMP are asking anyone on Buck Lake or in the area of the search to remain clear and give them room to work. They also ask you keep an eye out for signs of the missing boater.
