Three suspects have been arrested following an alleged kidnapping and extortion incident in Parkland County.
On April 14, Parkland RCMP received a report stating that the previous evening, two individuals were kidnapped, extorted, robbed and assaulted. The victims were reportedly restrained and held against their will at a residence on Paul First Nation, where they say they were beaten, threatened and robbed by three people.
Two suspects were allegedly armed with firearms, which were said to be discharged during the incident.
The Parkland General Investigation Section (GIS) took over the investigation, searched the scene and seized several pieces of evidence. This investigation led to arrest warrants being issued for a 20-year-old female, a 27-year-old male and a 33-year-old male who were all believed to be armed and dangerous.
On April 19, the female suspect was located in Edmonton, arrested by Edmonton Police Services and remanded into custody.
On April 22, the 33-year-old male suspect was located in south Edmonton. Multiple teams were deployed to the area and he was arrested without further incident and remanded into custody. Police say evidence was located at two more residences in connection to this arrest, including drugs, firearms and ammunition.
The final suspect was arrested on April 23 at a restaurant in Spruce Grove, after employees reported a customer was refusing to pay for his meal. He was also remanded into custody.
RCMP say the suspects’ names are not yet being released as the investigation is ongoing.
All three individuals face serious charges including kidnapping, extortion, robbery with a firearm, assault causing bodily harm and other weapons offences.
“These violent occurrences often require a coordinated response,” said Sgt. Collin Kuca, Commander, Parkland RCMP Plain Clothes Unit. “I am pleased to say that multiple units of the RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service worked seamlessly to apprehend these suspects who posed a serious risk to public safety.”
