Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) has selected Faye Wolsey, an educator at Frank Maddock High School, as its nominee for the 2026 Edwin Parr Teacher Award.
The award was established by the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) to recognize outstanding first-year teachers who demonstrate excellence in the teaching quality standard.
“It is an incredible privilege to be named the Edwin Parr nominee for Wild Rose School Division. Understanding the significance of this recognition, it means a great deal to have my dedication to teaching acknowledged in my first year,” comments Wolsey. “I am deeply grateful for the support and guidance of my colleagues and mentors, and I look forward to continuing this journey with the same passion and commitment to my students.”
Wolsey began her teaching journey as an educational assistant before obtaining her bachelor of education from the University of Calgary.
WRSD officials say she has already established herself as a cornerstone in the community due to her innovative and radically empathetic practice.
“Faye Wolsey is not simply teaching a curriculum; she is architecting a community of thinkers while upholding the highest standards of professional accountability and integrity,” says Principal Lara Jollymore.
Board Chair Daryl Scott also says she has demonstrated professional growth and dedication.
The Edwin Parr Teacher Award is named after the past ASBA President Edwin Parr and is awarded annually to one first-year teacher in each of the ASBA’s six zones.
Wolsey will represent WRSD as the nomination process moves forward to the Zone 4 Selection Committee.
Zone 4 includes eight school divisions: Battle River, Chinook’s Edge, Red Deer Catholic Regional, Red Deer Public, Wetaskiwin Regional, Wild Rose and the Wolf Creek School Division. Nominees will be celebrated at a banquet in Innisfail on May 25, when the winner will also be announced.
