According to Drayton Valley Enforcement Services’ 2025 Annual Report, officers experienced a 29 per cent increase in calls for service last year, along with a 31 per cent increase in proactive traffic enforcement.
In 2025, 1,710 incidents were investigated, a 29 per cent increase compared to 2024 and a 61 per cent increase compared to 2022. Enforcement service officials say traffic safety was a key focus area, with 1,796 warnings and tickets being issued, a 31 per cent increase from 2024.
Of the 1,710 investigated incidents, 502 concerned the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, 482 pertained to the Community Standards Bylaw and 228 fell under the Traffic Safety Act.
The department also reportedly operated with reduced staffing for six months of the year, which limited the amount of proactive enforcement and community engagement possible. Specifically, it operated at 66 per cent capacity (two officers) from January to April, plus November and December.
Despite this challenge, Enforcement Services did participate in numerous community events, including the Cram a Cruiser/Dunk and Donate initiative, which raised $5,000 in food and monetary donations for the local food bank. It also introduced the Trespassing Agent Program and the Positive Ticketing Program to Drayton Valley.
The report notes that Wednesday was the busiest day of the week for calls for service, with June the busiest month of the year and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. the busiest time of day.
Officers responded to 556 animal-related incidents, resulting in 90 dogs and cats being housed in the animal control facility. Of those, 25 returned home to their owners, 60 went unclaimed and had their ownership transferred to local rescues and five were miscellaneous.
In 2025, there were eight employer-initiated complaints against Drayton Valley peace officers. Six were deemed founded and two were deemed unfounded. Zero of these complaints were recorded from 2022 to 2024. Five public complaints were also received, one of which was resolved informally with the officer and complainant, three of which were deemed unfounded and one that is still under investigation.
