The Drayton Valley Thunder have dropped to the bottom spot in the AJHL’s South Division after a loss on Friday, Jan. 30.
The team was looking to snap a five-game skid this weekend, but fell 7-4 to the Olds Grizzlys, who were just one point behind before the match-up.
The Grizzlys scored four goals unanswered until 16:22, when Caedem Emmett netted one for Drayton. Dylan Snelgrove and Will Jamieson assisted.
Heading into period two with the Grizzlys leading 4-1, Olds scored a shorthanded goal shortly into the frame, bumping the team to 5-1.
With assistance from Caedem Emmett, the Thunder’s Nathan Cole fired back five minutes later to narrow the Grizzlys’ lead to 5-2.
Olds netted two more at 13:49 and 14:39, however, for a five-point lead at 7-2.
Then Caedem Emmett scored once more for Drayton Valley before the end of the frame, with assistance from Nathan Cole and Will Jamieson.
Antonio Bevacqua scored the Thunder’s fourth point in period three. Breken Northgrave and Daniel Zhou got the helpers.
Drayton Valley outshot Olds 51-31.
The Thunder now have 27 points, one behind the Grizzlys, with a record of 11-23-3-2.
