A citizen-initiated petition regarding a referendum on Alberta’s separation from the rest of Canada is coming to Thorsby.
The petition asks, “Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?”
The petition’s signature collection period began on Jan. 3 and lasts 120 days. The proponent, Mitch Sylvestre, must collect 177,732 in-person signatures to bring the question to a referendum.
Petitioners will be in Thorsby on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. for a signing event at the Thorsby and District Community Centre.
