The Town of Drayton Valley will be recognizing Sept. 30 as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
The motion will make Sept. 30 a statutory holiday for all Town of Drayton Valley employees. As such, some town facilities may see reduced hours or closures on Sept. 30. Updates will be posted to the Town of Drayton Valley Facebook page.
In a statement, Town council says they “understand the significance of Truth and Reconciliation Day as an opportunity to reflect on the injustices suffered by our Indigenous communities, and the chance to learn from these tragedies so we can work towards a better future.”
Council also encourages the community to join them, and the Town organization, in reflection on the horrific residential school experience and engage in conversations to advance truth and reconciliation.
