The Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) Board of Trustees has approved a land transfer to the Village of Breton and directed administration to provide feedback to the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission on proposed boundary changes.
On Dec. 1, WRSD received a letter from the Village of Breton requesting that it consider transferring ownership of the lands known as 4711 51 Street to the village, once demolition of the elementary school structure is complete.
The board approved the transfer on Dec. 16, and they will be transferred for a nominal amount under the Education Act, Real Property Governance Act (RPGA) and the Disposition of Property Regulation.
The board also directed administration to provide feedback on proposed changes to the Alberta electoral boundaries. The 2025-26 Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission has proposed changes that would see Clearwater County split between three districts: Lacombe—Rocky Mountain House, Mountain View—Kneehill and Banff—Jasper.
It is currently represented by one MLA within the Rimbey—Rocky Mountain House—Sundre boundary, Jason Nixon. If the county were to be divided amongst three districts, the board is concerned that common rural interests would be diminished and legislative representation would be divided.
As such, it is providing feedback to the commission requesting no change to the current electoral boundaries.
A map of the proposed changes is available here.
