Brazeau County council has passed the interim 2026 budget with no increase to the municipal tax rate.
Town officials say the budget maintains a focus on core services and includes $5.5 million in new capital investments in roads, equipment replacement and other infrastructure.
The operating budget was approved at $41,874,030, down from $44,355,874 in 2025 due to efficiencies found, Reeve Bart Guyon explained.
“Low taxes, low fees, and investment in infrastructure continue to be the focus for council,” he said. “We have a balanced budget that keeps money in ratepayers’ pockets while focusing on priority capital projects.”
Some investments and initiatives in the budget include:
- Reconstruction and replacement of Township Road 495 between Range Roads 71 and 73
- Playground resurfacing and shower house replacement at Pihtokwe campground
- Electrical upgrades at Willey West campground
- Increased funding to the Drayton Valley and Breton libraries
- Grant matching funding for the replacement of the boiler at Lodgepole Hall
- Equipment replacement
The final budget will be approved in April following final property assessments.
