The Drayton Valley Thunder continued a home game series over the weekend with a dual match-up against the Grande Prairie Storm.
On Nov. 28, the Storm edged the Thunder 2-1.
No one scored in period one, but Grande Prairie outshot Drayton Valley 19-13.
The second frame saw the Storm secure goals at 5:51 and 7:30 to put them at a 2-0 lead.
At 7:34, the Storm’s Max Fogle earned a high sticking penalty and with 11 seconds left in the Thunder’s powerplay, Avery Watson netted his fifth goal of the season. Caedem Emmett and Jerrett Ross got the helpers.
There was no scoring in period three, leaving Grande Prairie ahead 2-1.
Saturday, the Storm trounced the Thunder 7-1.
With only eight shots on goal from the Thunder in period one and three shots in period two, Grande Prairie dominated the game’s early action. The team scored once in the first frame and four times in the second for a 5-0 lead.
Just 0:49 into period three, Daniel Zhou scored for Drayton Valley. He was assisted by Taynton Lavender and Jack Sears.
Then, Grande Prairie secured two more at 9:30 and 9:57 for a 7-1 win.
With one game left at home before they hit the road again, the Thunder now sit in last place in the AJHL South Division at 7-13-2-0. The Grande Prairie Storm are in fifth in the North Division with 12-10-0-1.
