The Drayton Valley Thunder were on the road in Lloydminster and Bonnyville over the weekend.
On Friday, they fell 3-0 to the Lloydminster Bobcats, who currently sit in second place in the AJHL North Division.
Morgan Hackman opened the scoring for the Bobcats in period one, with assistance from Luke Dooley and Ethan Elefante.
Lloydminster maintained their 1-0 lead until 10:33 into period two, when Jadon Iyogun netted another to bring their lead to 2-0. Raphael Messier and Kade Fendelet got the helpers on the powerplay goal.
With support from Esteban Cinq-Mars and Tucker Roberston, Kael Screpnek also scored about seven minutes later, bringing the Bobcats to their final 3-0 score.
On Saturday, the Thunder kept pace with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, maintaining a 3-3 tie to the end of period three, but the Pontiacs took the win in overtime.
Avery Watson scored unassisted first for the Thunder, his third goal of the season. The team maintained that 1-0 lead until Taynton Lavender went to the box for slashing at 18:28, sending Bonnyville to the powerplay. About one minute later, Gavin Harrison tied it up 1-1 for the Pontiacs, with assistance from Maxwell Pendy.
Frame two saw Bonnyville tip the scales less than three minutes in with a solo goal by Evan Schulha. The Pontiacs scored again 1:13 later to boost the team to a 3-1 lead.
At 9:08, Drayton’s Dylan Snelgrove was assisted by Cohen Carter and Jerrett Ross in notching another, narrowing Bonnyville’s lead to 3-2.
Just past 16 minutes in, Pontiac Christophe Lussier took a slashing minor. Four seconds later, Damian Hill took advantage of the powerplay to tie the score at 3-3. The helper went to Jack Sears.
The Thunder maintained the tie through period three, sending the game into overtime. Just 26 seconds in, Maxwell Pendy scored unassisted for a 4-3 win.
The Drayton Valley Thunder are fifth in the AJHL South Division, trailing two points behind the fourth-place Drumheller Dragons.
