An Edson-based company has been penalized $150,000 in the Evansburg Court of Justice following a serious workplace injury incident that occurred near Entwistle.
McLeod Valley Sand and Gravel pleaded guilty on Aug. 25, 2025, in Evansburg Court of Justice to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act for failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker. The Crown withdrew 14 other counts, as well as all 17 counts against JRF Oilfield Services Ltd., of Edson, which were related to the same incident.
The charges follow an incident that occurred at a construction site near Entwistle in June 2023, where a worker became entangled in a roller attached to a conveyor system and suffered serious injuries.
On Oct. 20, the company was ordered to pay $150,000 to the Alberta Sand and Gravel Association to fund three interactive online safety training modules.
Both the company and the Crown have up to 30 days to appeal the conviction or penalties.
