The Drayton Valley Thunder played two games over the weekend, winning one.
On Saturday, Oct. 4, they took the Calgary Canucks 5-2, but on Sunday, lost 4-2 to the Canmore Eagles.
In their winning game, the Thunder’s Loughlan McMullan started the action off unassisted at 4:28, but the Canucks were able to tie it up 1-1 before the frame ended.
In the second period, Calgary scored one power play goal for a 2-1 lead while Loughlan McMullan was in the box for tripping.
But Drayton Valley dominated frame three, with Jerrett Ross scoring at 5:45 to tie it up 2-2 thanks to a hooking minor for the Canucks. Caedem Emmett and Damian Hill got the helpers.
About two minutes later, Drayton’s Loughlan McMullan netted an unassisted goal again, also his second of the season to put the Thunder ahead 3-2.
Calgary’s Dylan Woulds then went to the box for hooking at 14:08, and the Thunder’s Taynton Lavender, assisted by Daniel Zhou and Jack Sears, brought it to 4-2 with another power play goal.
With assistance from Colson Ganser, Lavender closed the game at 5-2 in Drayton’s favour with his fourth goal of the season, an empty netter.
On Sunday, the Eagles scored right out of the gate for a 1-0 lead just 0:23 in, but Drayton fought to tie it up before the end of the period. Breken Northgrave, assisted by Colson Ganser and Kingston Sauter, scored at 15:56.
Canmore scored again in period two, bringing it to 2-1 in their favour.
In the third frame, the Thunder’s Avery Watson started things off with a power play goal at 3:47, after the Eagle’s John Szabo took a cross checking minor. Damian Hill and Caedem Emmett got the helpers.
The 2-2 tie was short-lived though, as Canmore pushed back with their own power play goal and an empty netter to finish on top at 4-2.
