The municipal election is coming up on Oct. 20, and there’s a few important things to remember in the lead up to the main event.
Brazeau County is allowing voting by Special Ballot for those who meet the eligibility criteria.
If you are unable to attend election day or advance voting, you can apply to vote by a Special Ballot. You must inquire to Returning Officer Jasmine Nuthall at election@brazeau.ab.ca or 780-920-3537 by Oct. 9. The voter then needs to complete the package, including a sealed ballot, copy of identification, certification of vote and any other required forms and arrange return to Nuthall by Oct. 17.
Advance voting takes place at the Breton Community Centre on Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Another advance voting opportunity will be held in the Brazeau County Administration Office on Oct. 15 for the same hours.
On election day, Oct. 20, polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in five of the county’s six divisions. Electors must cast their ballot at a voting station designated for the division they reside in.
Poll locations are as follows:

Brazeau County has also signed an agreement with the Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) to hold the public school board election in conjunction with the municipal election. Voters will be able to cast their ballot for WRSD trustees at the same place they cast their municipal ballot.
Electors are reminded to register to vote proactively to save yourself time the day of. If your name is not on the voter register when you arrive, you will need to complete a form before casting your ballot.
You can register or check your registration status through Voterlink.
You’ll also need to bring one or more of the acceptable forms of ID required by the Local Authorities Election Act. Only one piece of photo identification provided by the Canadian government, whether federal, provincial, or local, that includes your name and current address is needed. If you do not have government-issued photo identification, you will need to provide two pieces of ID, both with your full name and one with your current address. A list of eligible documents is available under “Voter Information,” then, “What to Know for Election Day” here.
Unofficial election results will be published as they become available, and the official count will be posted by noon on Oct. 24.
