Two Edmonton residents were arrested by Evansburg RCMP and the Alberta RCMP Community Response Team (CRT) following a traffic stop on Highway 16 near Evansburg last week.
On Sept. 10, the Alberta CRT conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep Cherokee for alleged traffic offences. Police identified the passenger as an individual with outstanding warrants through the Edmonton Police Service for possession of stolen property.
Police say items observed in the vehicle then prompted officers to open a drug investigation, at which point police say they located and seized the following:
- 11.8 grams of cocaine
- 11.4 grams of methamphetamine
- $1,500 Canadian currency
- Brass knuckles
- Bear spray
- Two scales
As a result, a 35-year-old male and a 29-year-old female were arrested and jointly charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2)
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2)
The male was held for a bail hearing, remanded into custody, and appeared in the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Sept. 12. The female was held for a bail hearing, released on a release order, and is to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Evansburg on Sept. 22.
